The ancient vampire Rone has walked the coast of Europe each Midsummer’s Eve for centuries, killing any human female he encounters by first making passionate love to her and then draining her body dry. But never before has a beautiful woman sought him out to offer him her body and her blood.

Jalie left the rundown inn where she was staying just as the blazing sun sank into the blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea. The innkeeper had begged her not to venture out. It was Midsummer’s Eve, the end of the longest day, the start of the shortest night. According to a thousand-year-old legend, a vampire awoke on this night and stalked the sea shore in the humid summer heat.

The land known centuries ago as Europe was ancient and covered with ruins. The best of humanity had fled to new worlds among the stars. Those left behind lived like peasants, grubbing a living from the weary earth. On this night they huddled behind the safety of locked doors, gripping their charms against evil.

Jalie had seen many bizarre things on her journeys among the worlds, some strange enough to make her hope the vampire might be real. After all, her immortal existence was unique. The doctors had decided she was a mutation, a genetic freak. They’d wanted to study her, perhaps dissect her, but she’d fled and spent centuries hiding from the hunters they sent after her -- until the loneliness, the constant loss of all she loved, became too much to bear. Now she was a hunter herself, an immortal in search of death.

Was the legend that had brought her to this village a tall tale to amuse a tourist from another world, or the truth? Soon enough she’d know. When she reached the beach, she kicked off her sandals and strode barefoot across the white sand. A huge moon hung above the sea, pale as bleached bones. Stars gleamed in a velvet black sky.

She stood for a long time gazing out at the ocean, watching the waves come hissing in with the tide, throwing their sea-foamed crests at the sand. A cool breeze molded her long cotton skirt to her legs and dried the sweat that glistened on her skin. Her breasts strained against the thin fabric of her halter top, her nipples hardening and aching with the need that tormented her.

When she turned back toward the land, a shock ran through her, sharp as a blade. A shadow in the shape of a man stood between her and the path back to the village. With legs spread wide and arms folded across his chest, he watched her, motionless, as if he’d risen up out of the sand.

Jalie bit back her cry of surprise. A drop of sweat gathered at the nape of her neck and slid down her spine. Was it possible the legend was true?

Treya tugged at the collar of her black skinsuit and wondered if the sudden flush of searing heat was because of the sun beating down on her back or the man. Both were hot. “Your price, Lochlan?”

He smiled. His face was a perfect blend of planes and angles, his eyes an intense blue and his lips, well, those he could put anywhere he wanted.

The Summer Passion dangled from his long fingers. If he dropped the vial, she’d have to dive for it, literally. Treya doubted she’d have time to initiate her glide boots and catch it before it fell into the lagoon.

Fuck, it was hot. She wasn’t dressed for paradise.

“One night.” Challenge burning in Lochlan’s wicked blue eyes.

One night. Her gaze swept over his sleek muscled body. Tanned to golden perfection, Locklan wore a pair of black swim trunks and flip-flops. She’d imagined him naked on numerous occasions, usually while in the throes of an erotic dream. Maybe tonight her fantasy would become a reality. But a girl couldn’t appear too eager.

“I have a buyer on Rigel 4. He’s willing to pay two million credits. We can split the profit.”

He rocked his hand. Back and forth, the vial filled with the precious aphrodisiac swayed. “It’s not credits I’m in need of tonight.”

Was he playing with her? Or was he serious? “Don’t fuck with me, Lochlan.”

“That’s exactly what I want to do for one, long, hot summer night.”

His words slid through her brain, a sinful temptation. Things came easily to the rich. They valued the things that didn’t. A pirate turned corporate mogul, Lochlan was one of the richest men in the ’verse.

Eyeing the vial, Treya stepped closer. “Take a walk on the beach or a stroll around your hotel. Solis 6 is filled with willing partners. Women. Men. Some yet to be determined.”

“I want you.”

Raya exited the aged transport that had brought her to Oriana and thanked all the deities she could name that she’d made it there in one piece. The planet was beautiful, and a few months ago she’d had the best sex of her life on this backwater outpost, but gods above, couldn’t the locals invest in some modern ships?

She used her absurd lace handkerchief to wipe the sweat from her brow. She’d thought the weather hot the last time she’d visited Oriana. But now it was full summer, and the transport pilot had reported a surface temperature of 110 degrees Fahrenheit.

She wondered what the locals would do if she donned a short, cool-cloth suit, the only garment she’d normally consider in such heat. They’d probably arrest her for indecency. Calder would get the charges dropped and her comfort would almost make it worth the trouble. But getting thrown in jail would delay the long, hard fuck she needed from Calder. That was not acceptable.

Between her raging desire she’d been unable to slake and the blazing Orianian sun, she feared she might explode. She needed to find Calder fast, get some relief for her aching pussy, and then sleep for about twelve hours in a climate-controlled room.

Since she hadn’t bothered to inform Calder that her client was finally ready to close their land deal, no carriage awaited her. She would have to walk the three miles to his estate. As the heat pushed against her in oppressive waves, she wished she had called. But if she had, Calder might have asked annoying questions like how long she planned to stay and whether she had reconsidered his offer.

No, he wouldn’t ask that. He’d warned her that he wouldn’t ask her to stay again. She’d blown her chance. Surely that didn’t mean he wouldn’t be excited to see her? She supposed he had a right to be angry. She had left without saying goodbye. But his cock would respond to her, and that was what mattered, wasn’t it?

The two Alphas circled each other warily, hackles raised and eyes gleaming golden in the moonlight. A beautiful female, her eyes demonically red, lounged casually in the hollow of an oak’s roots. This wasn’t her fight. They’d have to work their differences out on their own. Then, it would be her turn. She knew she was the prize.

The large, graying wolf stepped carefully in the sand. He was new to this idea of sharing power, after managing his pack alone for over thirty years . His muscles bunched and moved fluidly, something the female appreciated.

The brown Chihuahua curled his lip and kept an unflinching eye on the wolf, no matter how the big fellow paced. He would not give up, despite the size difference. There was more than his love life at stake here, as far as he was concerned. He didn’t like sharing.

Katriena studied the two with an indulgent smile. Tonight was her night, and she reveled in the anticipation. Still, she had to teach the males their place. “Oh, get on with it, you two! I’m perishing for a cup of coffee while you two get off on your testosterone poisoning.”

Both males leapt into the air, whirled, and came down side by side. They studied her, now in naked human form, an enticement despite being past her prime by a few years. Her breasts were still lush and full, her flat belly showing no sign of any litters past, though all knew there’d been some. Katriena prided herself on keeping in shape. Her black hair, ice blue eyes and white skin celebrated her true form -- that of an exotic Siberian Husky.

The Chihuahua shifted first, revealing a short, naked man with brown skin, thick black hair, and large brown eyes. He crossed his burly arms over his chest. “Sorry, baby. I’m still not used to sharing.”

“Nor I.” The big gray wolf had shifted to a tall, naked man with a lean body and a mane of black and gray hair.

Katriena rose gracefully from her improvised throne and sauntered over to take a firm bicep of each male. She hid her shiver of delight at the quivering male flesh and gave both of them a mild shake. “This isn’t about us, you morons. Let’s fuck and seal the breach between our packs.” A jerk of her head indicated the luxuriously large campsite awaiting them.

Eduardo, the short man, reached out and pulled her to them both. He was the first to bury his face in her right shoulder and nibble. “I’ll try.”

Not to be outdone, Duke wrapped one arm around Eduardo for balance and pulled Katriena closer to him as well. Deep pain welled up in his voice. “So long. It’s been so long…”
